No. 14 Men's Lacrosse Opens Their Season with a Road Win Against Coker University

Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The No. 14 ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team defeated Coker University 11-7 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon in Hartsville, South Carolina. 

INSIDE THE SCORE
The Coker Cobras gained an early lead as they scored the first three goals with 8:22 left in the first quarter. With 5:40 left in the quarter, the Mount Olive Trojans responded with an unassisted goal by Matthew Ateshian. The Trojans saw goals from Braydon Hickey and Aidan Lalonde and tied the game 3-3 at the end of the quarter. 

In the second quarter of the competition, the Cobras took control and had a two goal lead over the Trojans. The Trojans finally took control of the game when Senior Lucas Shein scored a goal. Mount Olive shut out Coker for the remaining seven minutes of the game and took the lead going into halftime with a score of 7-5. 

In the third quarter, Lalonde scored a goal at the 13:20 mark putting the Trojans ahead at 8-5. Shein scored another goal but Coker quickly responded by scoring two goals to end the quarter
9-7 still in the Trojans favor. 

In the last quarter of the game, the Cobras had opportunities to try and tie up the competition but the force the Trojans brought was too much. Blake Tallon of UMO scored the only goals of the last quarter. Mount Olive dominated the last 15 minutes of the game and secured the win with a score of 11-7. 

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Aidan Lalonde recording three goals. The Trojans saw two goals and one assist from Chaz Goodman and Lucas Shein and two goals from Blake Tallon. Matthew Ateshian and Braydon Hickey both contributed with one goal. Goalkeeper Andrew Avarello recorded 18 saves and gained his first win between the pipes. 

COKER LEADERS
The Cobras were led by Zyaire Marshall with three goals and one assist and Henry Haskett with two goals. 

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game was in the last quarter of the game when Tallon scored the only goals of the final frame allowing the Trojans to take home the 11-7 win.

Mount Olive with return in action on February 12, at 3 p.m. at home at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex to take on Catawba College.
