Box Score 2 MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The No. 13 University of Mount Olive baseball team defeated Lock Haven University 10-7/14-7 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Scarborough Field. UMO improves to 2-0 overall, while Lock Haven falls to 0-2.
GAME ONE INFORMATION
The Trojans started game one off behind early as a two-run home run pushed the Bald Eagles out first. Mount Olive however countered in the bottom of the first with two runs of their own to tie the game. Lock Haven's Jake Mastillo stayed hot belting his second long ball of the game in the third regaining the lead for LHU.
The fifth inning proved to be the turning point as Aaron Hedgepeth extended the UMO lead to 5-3 with an RBI single. Gordon Pihl came up with the biggest hit of the afternoon as he gave UMO their first home run with a three-run shot, extending the cushion to 8-3.
UMO never surrendered the lead adding two more runs in the eighth sealing the 10-7 win.
TROJAN LEADERS
Pihl led the team with five RBI on his 1-for-4 day including a walk. Seth Nightingale (1-0) recorded his first win on the season going three and two thirds allowing six hits and struck out three.
LOCK HAVEN LEADERS
Mastillo had two home runs in game one for the Bald Eagles.
KEY STAT
Mount Olive had nine RBI spread across four Trojans.
GAME TWO INFORMATION
Game two saw LHU once again score first in the first 1-0. Mount Olive countered in the bottom half again and took the lead 2-0. Alden Cottle helped break a 2-2 tie in the second with his first home run of the season. UMO added to their lead in every inning except the sixth as they cruised to a 14-7 victory in the night cap.
TROJAN LEADERS
Vito Patierno led the team with six RBI on a perfect 4-for-4 day including a walk. Dawson Gause(1-0) picked up the win going five complete allowing five runs off seven hits and struck out five.
LOCK HAVEN LEADERS
Mastillo collected three more RBI in game two to help led the way for the Bald Eagles.
