Men's Volleyball Takes Down King

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team defeated the Tornados of King University 3-2 on Friday.This win takes the Trojans to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference.  

GAME INFORMATION

Mount Olive took an early 9-4 lead over the Tornados to open set one. King had no answer for the dominating Trojan offense as UMO took control of the first set with a 19-13 lead. The Trojans close out the set with a kill from Luke Visgitis 25-17. 

The second set started point for point until UMO took two 2-point runs to take a 7-5 lead over King. Another Trojan run extends the UMO lead to four 10-6. The Tornados found an answer and tied the second set at 14. An unstoppable King offense took another three-point run to lead 17-15. UMO found a late set answer for the Tornados but not before King closed out set two with the 25-23 win. 

Set three saw an early 5-2 King lead. The Tornado offense was finding the open areas of the floor as they extended the lead to 10-7. Mount Olive pulled within one of the Tornados with a serving ace from Eric Visgitis 12-11. The Trojan, Tobi Azeez, found his momentum and tied the set at 15. Two back-to-back Trojan kills from Azeez, and Dominic Hagerty gave UMO the 18-17 lead. The two teams were point-for-point until the Trojans earned a set point with a two-point run. The following eight points were back and forth until UMO took another two-point run to secure the set three win 30-28.

The fourth set saw an early 6-4 lead over King. The two Conference Carolina teams went point-for-point until a three-point Trojan run extended their lead to 12-8. A three-point King run tied set four at 21 to force a Mount Olive timeout. King came out of the timeout with a three-point run to take set four 25-23.

The two teams were back and forth to open the fifth and final set. The Trojans found momentum halfway through the set to take a crucial 9-7 lead. The Tornadoes answered with a three-point run to take the 12-10 lead. The final set was tied at 14 until the Trojans took a three-point run to take set five and the match 16-14.

The Trojans were led by Dominic Hagerty with 21 kills while Jarrod Ferguson added 57 assists.

Tornados Leaders
The Tornadoes were led by Suetanius Harris with 19 kills.

The Trojans will stay in Kornegay Arena as they take on Lees-McRae College on February 26th at 11:00AM.
