ROCK HILL, S.C. (Nov. 8) – Behind a pair of shutout performances last week, University of Mount Olive freshman defender
Maud van Duin was selected the Defensive Player of the Week from the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) on Tuesday morning.
van Duin, a freshman from Hazerswoude-Rijndijk, Netherlands, anchored a Mount Olive defense that collected a pair of shutout victories last week. She assisted the defensive effort as UMO held Wingate to one shot the entire match, while limiting Lander to just two shots on goal. van Duin played 119 minutes along the backline as nationally-ranked Mount Olive extended its winning streak to 12-straight.
The 5-foot-7 freshman, van Duin has played in all 15 matches with nine starts while tallying four points on one goal and two assists. She becomes the third different player to earn the defensive weekly honor from the conference.
The UMO defense has registered five shutouts this season, including three-straight in conference play, while hold five opponents to four shots or fewer this year.
Mount Olive returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 12, when it hosts Coker in league action on Senior Day at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex, starting at noon.
