SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Nov. 5) – Freshman
Ciara Sulton earned all-league honors on Saturday morning, as the University of Mount Olive women's cross country program finished eighth overall in the team standings at the Conference Carolinas Championships.
The Trojans registered 177 points at the league meet in a field of 11 teams. King repeated as Conference Carolinas Champions with 52 points, as all five scorers placed in the top-20 overall. Converse and UNC Pembroke finished narrowly behind in the team standings with 53 and 54 points, respectively.
Sulton received All-Conference Second-Team status after finishing 13th overall at the conference race with a season-best time of 24 minutes, 4.8 seconds in the 6k race. A Georgia native, she led the team in all five races this season and collected her second career top-15 finish in her career.
Sophomore
Celine Fleurilus finished in 24th place and shattered her career-best time after crossing the line in 24:56.1 in the six-kilometer meet in South Carolina. It marked her best overall finish at the league meet as she missed all-league honors by three positions.
Freshman
Natalie Baldwin registered a season-best time of 25:22.1 to place 27th overall. Sophomores
Paige Witteborg and
Jacqueline Thring finished back-to-back in the conference race. Witteborg crossed the line at 27:51.6 to finish 62nd overall, while Thring placed right behind to round out the team scorers with a time of 27:53.5.
Sophomore
Caroline Allred also competed in the meet and finished in 70th place with a time of 28:31.1
UNC Pembroke senior Jackline Kosgei earned the individual title by over 47 seconds after crossing the line at 22:06.
UMO is idle for two weeks before competing on Nov. 19 in Wingate, North Carolina, at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships.
