The Trojans earn shutout victory at Coker, 2-0

Congleton scores both goals; Trojans remains undefeated in conference play

HARTSVILLE, S.C. (Oct. 18) – Junior Avery Congleton scored a pair of goals in the second half, as the University of Mount Olive field hockey team claimed a 2-0 victory over Coker in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) play on Tuesday evening.
 
 With the win, the Trojans improve to 7-2 in division play and a 7-0 mark in league action. Mount Olive has now registered seven-straight wins and set a new program record for wins in a single season and league play. Meanwhile, the Cobras fall to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the conference play. 
 
 The match got off to a slow start as Mount Olive only saw three shots in the first quarter, all attempted by Congleton. The Trojans pushed heavily on the offensive end as they were able to get shot opportunities, but the Cobra defense kept the game scoreless by the end of the first half. 
 
 As the whistle blew to start the second half of the game, UMO dominated both offensively and defensively. At the 43:13-mark of the match, the Trojans gained a penalty corner opportunity and capitalized. Mount Olive scored the first goal of the contest on a shot by Congleton, scoring her seventh of the season, off an assist from freshman Maud van Duin, 1-0. Defensively, Mount Olive shut out Coker as they saw no shots in the third quarter. With one second left in the game, Congleton scored her second goal to secure the 2-0 victory for the Trojans.
 
 Sophomore goalkeeper Alanna Barrett earns the shutout with the help of her defense, holding the Cobras to only two shots for the entire match.
 
 Mount Olive held a 15-2 shot advantage over Coker, including an 11-1 lead in shots on goal, while also holding an 11-3 edge on penalty corners. 
 
 UMO returns to play on Friday, Oct. 21, for a conference road game against Limestone at 8 p.m.
