UMO sets multiple program records in win over LMU, 11-0

Bos posts first hat trick in program history; Trojans set team record for most goals in a game

MOUNT OLIVE (Oct. 13) – Freshman Nikki Bos registered the program's first-ever hat trick and the most points in a single match, as the Trojans set several program records on Thursday afternoon on their way to an 11-0 shutout victory over Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference (SAC) action at Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.

With the win, the University of Mount Olive field hockey team stretched its winning streak to six straight and improve to 6-2 in the division with a 6-0 mark in league play. Mount Olive has now matched its highest win total in program history in the regular season and conference action. Meanwhile, the Railsplitters fall to 0-8 overall behind a 0-6 record in league play.

The Trojans featured nine different goal scorers after posting a program-record 11 goals behind a hat trick from Bos. A native of Leusden, Netherlands, Bos also set a team record with eight points in a single match after tallying three goals and two assists in the win. It was also just the second-ever shutout for the fourth-year program.

UMO established an early 1-0 advantage in the first minute of the match after junior Avery Congleton scored her sixth goal of the season off an assist by Bos. The Trojans followed the goal with seven more shots, including three on goal, with five penalty corners. At the 14:26-mark, UMO extended the advantage to 2-0 after junior McKenzie Conroy found the back of the cage with an assist awarded to sophomore Annefleur Moerkerken.

In the second, the Trojans totaled four goals after attempting 15 shots in the quarter. In the 16th minute, Bos delivered a pass to fellow freshman Maud van Duin, who scored her first collegiate goal, to stretch the lead to 3-0. Following the goal, Bos added the advantage with a pair of scores in the span of under four minutes to take a 5-0 lead. Freshman Natasha Elder closed out the second quarter with her first collegiate goal after a pass was delivered by junior Brisa Uviedo at the 29:03-mark, 6-0.

Sophomore Jess Aylward open the scoring in the second half after notching her first career goal in the 38th minute. Just under three minutes later, UMO was awarded a penalty stroke and senior Jordyn Richards scored her first goal of the year to extend the lead to 8-0. At the 43:55-mark, Bos completed the career day with the hat trick and her team-leading eighth goal of the season to stretch the advantage to 9-0.

In the fourth quarter, van Duin spent a pass to sophomore Sophia Frugoni, who blasted it into the upper half of the goal for her first goal of the year, 10-0. The final goal of the match was recorded by sophomore Morgan Paterson, her fourth of the season, from an assist by fellow sophomore Jinte Steenbeeke, as Mount Olive secured the 11-0 win on Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore Alanna Barrett and freshman Amanda Parr combined for the complete game shutout at goalkeeper, which was the second in program history.

Mount Olive held a 46-1 shot advantage, including a 29-0 lead in shots on goals, while also posting an 18-0 edge in penalty corners.

The Trojans return to play on Tuesday, Oct. 18, when they travel to face Coker in conference play, starting at 4 p.m.
