Trojan Field Hockey Falls Against Belmont Abbey 2-0

Box Score Belmont, N.C.--  The University of Mount Olive (3-4, 3-2) fell to Belmont Abbey College (5-2, 3-1) 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action Wednesday afternoon. 

Game Information
The opening quarter saw Mount Olive and Belmont Abbey exchange shots with the Crusaders out shooting the Trojans 3-1.

Going into the second quarter BAC kicked their offense into high gear early on as three minutes in the Trojans surrendered a penalty corner. Off the corner Belmont Abbey recorded a shot on goal, with Victoria Lane denying the goal chance. However, a foul was called on Mount Olive resulting in a Penalty Stroke chance for the Crusaders. Belmont Abbey struck towards Lane's glove side and was able to sneak the ball past the Trojan keeper and break the scoreless tie. Mount Olive had two shots, including a penalty corner, during the remainder of the first half but went into the break down 1-0.

In the third Mount Olive had a golden chance as Morgan Patterson found herself on a 1v1 with the BAC keeper but the Crusaders held Mount Olive off the boards. Belmont Abbey continued to push as with under three to play, BAC recorded three straight corners. On the final corner UMO surrendered their second goal of the contest and were unable to notch a score themselves and ended the third down 2-0.

The final quarter Belmont Abbey secured the 2-0 win despite being out shot by UMO 3-to-2 and surrendering more corners than the Trojans at 4-to-3.

Trojan Leaders
Annefleur Morkerken led the Trojans with three shots, one on frame, in total for the contest. Trojan keeper Victoria Lane also had six saves in the contest.

Crusader Leaders
Belmont Abbey was led by Casey Etter with two of BAC's goals.

Coaches Comments:
"Tough loss in a game with opportunities for us, but unfortunately not successful (yet). Goals against us after a penalty stroke, that is hard to swallow. There were moments of good hockey by us and being in control of the game is a big compliment to the players," said Head Coach Daan Polders.

Key Stat
Mount Olive was unable to push much offense across as they were out shot 10-8, putting only four of those shots on frame.

The Trojans remain on the road to take on Coker University in the rematch of the season October 6 at 3 p.m.
