The University of Mount Olive (3-4, 3-2) defeated Coker University (1-4, 1-3) in conference action Saturday afternoon. UMO with the win secures the program's first back-to-back victories.
Game Information
The opening quarter saw Mount Olive grab the momentum as Celine De Witte followed her own penalty corner and blasted a shot past the Cobras keeper. Coker had an chance to tie the contest when they were given a penalty stroke shot under three minutes left in the quarter. Trojan keeper
Victoria Lane stretched high and denied the scoring chance keeping the 1-0 lead for UMO into the second.
The second quarter had a more defensive style as a goal was not struck by either team, and Coker out shot the Trojans 3-1.
In the third Coker found the equalizing goal five minutes into the frame and tied the game at one. Neither team was able to break the tie and the third ended 1-1.
The final quarter Mount Olive had a shot with nine minutes remaining but could not find the back of the goal. The Cobras countered with two shots of their own, but just as the Trojans were unable to score CU suffered the same fate. Avery Congleton and the shot made its way past the CU keeper and Mount Olive regained the lead. The Trojans did not allow a shot for the rest of the game and took home the 2-1 victory.
