Trojan Field Hockey Downs Coker 2-1

Hartsville, S.C.--  The University of Mount Olive (4-5, 4-3) defeated Coker University (2-7, 2-6) 2-1 in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action Wednesday afternoon. The win gives UMO its first road win in program history. 

Game Information
The opening quarter saw Coker take the early lead in the 5th minute and held the lead for the remainder of the quarter out shooting the Trojans 3-2.

Going into the second quarter, Mount Olive mimicked CU's scoring chance four minutes in, when Sophia Frugoni tied the match at one. UMO only had one more shot in the second but held onto the tie going into the break.

In the third, Mount Olive had a scoring chance three minutes in, off Avery Congleton's stick and the sophomore connected to put the Trojans up 2-1 and Annefleur Morkerken collected her second assist of the afternoon. Mount Olive had another near goal in the final seconds of the third but the shot went just wide ending the quarter and with it the first the UMO out shot Coker 3-to-2.

The final quarter had Coker once again out shoot UMO 4-2, but were held off the boards and Mount Olive held the 2-1 win.

Trojan Leaders
Annefleur Morkerken led the Trojans with two assists helping Frugoni and Congleton score. Trojan keeper Victoria Lane also had six  saves in the contest.

Cobra Leaders
Coker was led by Rylie Cordrey with CU's only score.

Key Stat
Mount Olive held Coker in check for most of the game, but sparked their offense by 12 penalty corners, while holding the Cobras to just four all in the third quarter. 

Coaches Comments
A slow start from our side put Coker on the board first. After some adjustments we played faster, more aggressive and more effective. We could have finished it earlier, but nevertheless, the players managed the game well until the end. Our very first road win," exclaimed Head Coach Daan Polders.
