Mount Olive, North Carolina --- The Mount Olive field hockey team will add depth with the addition of 7 new signees, head coach Daan Polders announced today. Joining the returning class of Trojans this fall are 6 freshmen, goalkeeper Michaela Brady, inner/wing Avery Congleton, forward McKenzie Conroy, center forward Alisia Lovejoy, defender Jordyn Richards, and center midfielder Kirsten Smits. Also joining the Trojans field hockey team is fifth year, Rosario Bove.
"We are extremely excited to welcome our 2019 class to UMO. Their combination of athletic ability, character, and academic success will be a wonderful addition to our growing program both in the classroom and on the field," said Polders.
Bove returns to Mount Olive for her fifth year. After previously competing for the Trojans tennis team, Bove will finish her fifth year with UMO field hockey. During her Tennis career for the Trojans, Bove went 2-5 in her doubles, advanced to the semis in the Methodist invitational, and placed third in the fall 2019 season. Bove is from Chascomús, Argentina, and currently studies Business Management.
Congleton is a freshman inner/wing from Dagsboro, Del. She was a four-year player at Indian River High School where she scored 39 goals with 13 assists during her career. She also earned first and second-team all-conference honors, academic all-conference honors, and was named a captain her senior year.
Conroy of King George, Va. is another addition to the Trojans. The incoming freshman competed at King George High School where she earned an all-region second-team award and an all-district award for her efforts on the field. Conroy additionally trained and competed on her club team, NOVA Elite.
Lovejoy is coming to Mount Olive as a center forward from West Chester, P.A. Throughout her high school career at The Tatnall School, Lovejoy captured 20 goals and contributed 17 assists for her team. Additionally, Lovejoy earned all-conference recognition over two consecutive years and trained with the club team WC Eagles.
Richards is a freshman defender from Whitney Point, N.Y. During her career at Whitley Point High School, Richards was named a first-team and second-team all-star, earned the sportsmanship award at the state tournament, and was a captain for her team. In addition, Richards was a member of two state championship teams.
Smits is a center midfielder from Nijkerkerveen, Netherlands. Last season for the Wwageningse Mixed Hockey Club the senior scored seven goals and added 12 assists as a captain. She also helped lead the team to a league playoff championship.
The final player being added to the Trojan's 2020-21 roster is freshman Michaela Brady, a goalkeeper from Linwood, N.J. Brady attended Mainland Regional High School and was a member of the club team South Jersey Edge.
