University of Mount Olive women's track and field student-athlete Taylor Moncrief is the Conference Carolinas nominee for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, which recognizes excellence in athletics, academics, and service and leadership. Moncrief's selection marks the 13th time in the last 15 years at least one Mount Olive student-athlete has represented Conference Carolinas for the award.
"Over the years, we have been fortunate to nominate some outstanding females who have excelled in their sport, academics, and in their service to the community. Taylor has not only met that standard, she has surpassed it. She embodies the true essence of being a student-athlete. I am extremely proud of her many accomplishments and excited that she is representing the University of Mount Olive and Conference Carolinas on the national level," said Dr. LaToya Lindsey Associate Director of Athletics/SWA.
Moncrief, a senior Psychology major from Greensboro, N.C., has a 3.857 GPA and has amassed numerous honors throughout her season and career. She recently was named CoSIDA Academic All-District and earned both the spring and winter Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athletes of the Year for track and field. She has been a USTFCCA All-Region selection all-four years and has been on the Conference Carolinas All-Conference team every year (18 total honors), being a Conference Champion three times in indoor alone. She has been named both the Conference Carolinas Winter and Spring Scholar-Athlete of the Year in back-to-back years. Also, she has been on the Academic All-Conference teams the past two years leading to a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in 2019. Moncrief has also been the Conference Carolinas Athlete of the Year for both indoor and outdoor in 2018 and 2019. She was also a National STUDENT-Athlete Day honoree.
Finally, she has been a member of seven Conference Carolinas Championship teams for indoor and outdoor combined.
In early September, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will name the Top 30 honorees, which include 10 women from each division. At the end of September, the selection committee will select and announce nine finalists, with three from each division. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics will select the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year from those finalists.
