UMO Track And Field Begin Outdoor Season With A Bang

PEMBROKE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's and women's track and field team competed in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Braves Track Classic Friday night in Pembroke, N.C. 

MEET INFORMATION
The Trojan men's and women's teams saw nine moves inside the UMO top-10 and numerous top-10 finishes.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

 

On the men's side, Justen Burnette (21.93) ties for sixth all-time in the 200m. Joshua Faison made two moves in the top-10; taking fourth in the discus (43.98m) and sixth in the shot put (12.96m). Ivan Lopez-Testillano (14.11m) in the triple jump moved to fifth all-time. Lastly, Jon Wojcuich (45.53m) in the hammer moved into fourth all-time.

In other events, Mount Olive had massive finishes in the top-10. In the 100m Justen Burnette (11.10) won the event, while Richard Fisher (11.31), Johnny Middlebrooks (11.35) and Kamari Walker (11.38) finished 5th, 7th, and 8th respectively. In the 200m, Burnette (21.93) picked up his second win of the day. Middlebrooks (22.11), Walker (22.19), Fisher (22.41) and Elijah Osimokun (22.60) finished 2-5 respectively in the event as the Trojans swept the 200. In the 400m Tedric Shannon (48.61) won the event, while Tim Jones (51.60) took second and Montrell Perry (53.56) finished seventh.

In the 1500m Daniel Francken (4:08.32) took 3rd, Jacob Gonzalez (4:09.19) took 4th, Jacob Willis (4:11.49) took 5th, and Jereamy Hall (4:18.80) took 8th. In the 5000m UMO finished 2-6 as Willis (16:02.25) led the pack followed by Jereamy Hall (16:02.26), Francken (16:02.27), Gonzalez (16:02.30), and Branson Odour (16:02.38). In the 110mh Jordan Martin (16.54) took fourth. In the high jump Jawann Washington (1.90m) finished fourth while Nykie Pray and Osimokun both tied for sixth with a 1.70m mark. Tanner Smith (3.80m) won the pole vault. In the long jump, Isaiah Foster (6.69) won the event with Lopez-Testillano (6.40), Pray (6.35), and Washington taking 5-7. Lopez-Testillano (14.11) also won the triple jump while Pray and foster finished fourth and seventh respectively. In the shot, Faison (12.96m) and Dorian Tolbert (12.27m) took 2nd and 3rd in the event. At the discus Faison (43.98), Ben Howard (41.85), Tom Kalliske (41.32), and Tolbert finished 2, 3, 4, and 8 respectively. Howard won the Hammer with a toss of 45.93m, while Wojcuich, Kalliske, and Tolbert finished 2, 3, and 7 respectively. Lastly, Wojcuich (36.70) took second at the javelin.

On the women's side, Jasmine Richardson (15.37) moved into third all-time in the 60mh. Mary Keck (39.55m) moved into third all-time in the discus. Tameia Morrison (44.68m) moved up to seventh all-time in the hammer. Finally, Mora Smith (5.21m) in the long jump tied for 10th all-time.

In other events, Mount Olive had massive finishes in the top-10. In the 100m Madison Fields (13.12) and Kristina Drew (13.28) finished 4th and 6th. In the 200m Jaiden Moody (26.27) won the event while Jacqueline Thring (26.60), Brittany Beckford (26.75), and Drew took 2nd, 4th, and 7th respectively. In the 400m Moody (59.71) picked up her second win and Thring (60.12) came in second once again. In the 1500m, Amber Owens (5:02.17) took second. The 5000m saw Ownes (18:45.78) come in 2nd, Erin Dillon (20:37.48) took 6th and Lena Kaster (20:37. 96) finish 7th. Richardson (15.37) won the 100mh. In the high jump, Beckford (1.55m) and Lavaisiette Keller (1.40m) took 3rd and 7th in the event. Smith (5.21) and Luisa Stutzke (4.76) in the long jump finished 3rd and 5th respectively. Smith also won the triple jump with a distance of 10.61m. In the shot Keck (11.11) Princess Lea'E (10.56), Samantha Tobin (10.28), and Morrison finished 3, 4, 7, and 8. The discus saw Keck win the event with her aforementioned distance and had Morrison (36.05), Tobin (34.42) and Daphne Hawkins (30.48) finish 3, 4, 6. The hammer had Morrison (44.68m) take third, Tobin (43.95) finish fifth, and Katlin Kenan (33.26) take eighth. In the final event, Kamber Skeen (38.50m) won the javelin and Morrison (28.18m) finished fifth.

The Trojans will be back in action when they host the annual adidas Trojan Challenge at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive, N.C. on March 20-21.
