Trojans Take Two In UMO Tri-Match

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina. - The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team came away with two wins in their tri-match against Lees-McRae and St. Francis Brooklyn taking both contests in straight sets Saturday afternoon inside Kornegay Arena.

GAME INFORMATION LEES-MCRAE
The opening set started with Mount Olive taking the first four points. The Trojans never surrendered the lead and had their largest lead of seven at 18-8 en route to taking the first set 25-14.

Mount Olive dropped the first point of set two in a tick-for-tack set that did not see the Trojans gain a marginal victory until 17-12 when UMO finished a 4-0 run. The Trojans withstood a barrage of Bobcat points late in the set to hold on for a 25-20 set win.

The third set saw the Trojans take the first two points and expanded their lead to five at 10-5 before eventually seeing LMC tie the set at 14. Mount Olive then took the next three points and never surrendered the lead again taking the set 25-22 and the match 3-0.

TROJAN LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Tobi Azeez with 13 kills in the match. Nicolas Laxar tallied 36 of the team's 40 assists.

LEES-MCRAE LEADERS
The Bobcats were led by MJ Doyle with eight kills. Bradley Peters also collected 25 assists.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the third set when UMO broke a 14-14 tie and closed out the final set 25-22 and the match 3-0.

GAME INFORMATION ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN
The opening set started with Mount Olive taking the first four points. The Trojans never surrendered the lead and had their largest lead of seven at 20-12 en route to taking the first set 25-16.

Mount Olive opened the second set with a 2-0 lead and pushed the tempo once more. UMO did not surrender the lead holding, at the highest a 10-point advantage at 22-12, before UMO took the set 25-15 to hold a 2-0 lead.

The third set for the first time did not start with UMO taking the first points of the set, however with St. Francis Brooklyn winning the first point and taking a 7-3 lead. Mount Olive was able to buckle down and tie the set at nine and the set went onto be tied 11 more times before the Trojans broke the tie with two points taking a 22-20 advantage. SFC attempted a comeback but could not draw the lead close enough and UMO took the final set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

TROJAN LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Tobi Azeez with 16 kills in the match. Nicolas Laxar tallied 41 of the team's 47 assists.

St. FRANCIS LEADERS
The Terriers were led by Bartiomoe Zielinski with 11 kills. Andrew Piloto also collected 22 assists.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the third set when UMO was able to break a series of ties in the set and with the final set 25-23 and the match 3-0.

UP NEXT
Mount Olive returns to Kornegay Arena to take on Erskine on March 13 at 7 p.m.
