No. 20 Mount Olive Sweeps Lenoir-Rhyne

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The No. 20 University of Mount Olive baseball team defeated Lenoir Rhyne University in a three-game series at Scarborough Field over the weekend. UMO improves to 6-1 overall, while Lenoir-Rhyne falls to 2-5.

INSIDE THE SCORE GAME 1
Mount Olive took the early lead in the bottom of the first on a JT Stone RBI-groundout and extended it to two in the second when Junior Snow singled into right.

Lenoir-Rhyne then tied in the sixth on an RBI base hit and took over the game in the seventh on another RBI base knock and led 3-2.

UMO tied the game in the bottom of the ninth when Snow reached on a fielder's choice and the game went into extra innings.

The two squads exchanged runs in the 10th and 11th innings and went into the 13th tied at five. 

Mount Olive was able to hold LR scoreless in the top of the 13th after the Bears were able to get two runners on and in the bottom half after the bases became loaded Dusty Baker hit a single into left field to win the game for UMo as the Trojans took game one 7-6.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Jake Isbell got the win for the Trojans going three complete allowing one earned run and struck out four. Junior Snow led the offense going 3-for-7 with three RBI.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came off the bat of Dusty Baker when his RBI-single led the Trojans to the walk-off win in the 13th.

 

INSIDE THE SCORE GAME 2
Game two saw minimal scoring from both teams as Mount Olive put up a pair of runs in the second and third that proved to be enough to take down the Bears in game two 4-0. 

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Hunter Stevens (1-0) got the win for the Trojans in game two going a complete game striking out nine allowing one hit. JT Stone led UMo with two RBI on the heels of a 2-for-2 performance from the plate. 

 

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the second when the Trojans took the game's first and only lead en route to the win.

 

INSIDE THE SCORE GAME 3
Mount Olive took the momentum right out of the gates scoring in the first on a Joe Mason fielder's choice to take a 1-0 lead. 

In the fifth, the Trojans added five runs highlighted by a Dusty Baker lead-off home run.

The Trojans went onto push home a pair of runs in the fourth and five more in the sixth to hold off the Bears' solo runs in the 4th, 5th, and 6th. 

Lenoir-Rhyne did add two runs in the eighth and ninth, but it was not enough as the Trojans took the 13-7 win and the series sweep 3-0.

MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Joe Mason who went 1-for-4 with four RBI. Caleb Irwin (1-0) got the win for Mount Olive throwing five innings allowing two runs and struck out three Bear batters.

KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the bottom of the second when Mount Olive pushed home five runs to go ahead 6-1 giving the Trojans enough cushion moving forward to secure the 13-7 win.

UP NEXT
Mount Olive heads to Charlotte, N.C. next weekend to take on Queens University (NC) in a three-game series beginning Friday at 12 p.m.
