Box Score MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina. - The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team downed the Tornado of King University in straight sets, 25-18 25-19 25-18 on Friday night inside Kornegay Arena.
GAME INFORMATION
The opening set started with Mount Olive taking the first three points. The Trojans never surrendered the lead and had their largest lead of seven at 16-9 en route to taking the first set 25-18.
Mount Olive took the beginning of the second set the same as the first with a 3-0 lead. Once again UMO did not surrender the lead holding, at the highest a four-point advantage at 14-10, before the Tornado cut the lead to 18-17. UMO did not falter taking the set 25-19 to hold a 2-0 lead.
The third set for the first time did not start with UMO taking the first three points, however with both teams exchanging points until with a 6-5 Trojan lead, Mount Olive scored four unanswered to take a 10-5 lead. Following a series of intense action that saw two yellow cards and one red card handed out including a point being awarded for KU, Mount Olive was able to close out the set taking the final three points needed for the win and took the match 3-0.
TROJAN LEADERS
The Trojans were led by Jarrod Ferguson with 13 kills in the match. Nicolas Laxar tallied 40 of the team's 42 assists.
KING LEADERS
The Tornado were led by Julian Young with seven kills. Jack Sumarsono also collected 25 assists.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the third set when UMO was able to overcome a series of unsportsmanlike cards to close out the final set 25-18 and the match 3-0
