Box Score 2 GAFFNEY, South Carolina - The No. 11 University of Mount Olive baseball team defeated Limestone College in the first two games of a three-game series on the road at Founders FCU Stadium in Gaffney, S.C. Saturday. UMO improves to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in conference, while Limestone falls to 2-12, 0-2. The series in the Conference Carolinas opener for both squads.
INSIDE THE SCORE GAME 1
Mount Olive in a low scoring contest took the lead in the top of the third on a Junior Snow RBI-single through the left side and UMO led 1-0.
UMO added another run in the seventh on a Snow RBI base hit again towards the left side, but it was answered in the bottom half and the Trojans held the one-run lead 2-1.
The Trojans went onto added single runs in the eighth and ninth and held off any surge from the Saints for the game one victory.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Will Abbott (2-0) got the win for the Trojans going the distance allowing only five hits and struck out eight. Junior Snow led the offense going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came when UMO scored its first run of the game as the lead was never surrendered.
INSIDE THE SCORE GAME 2
Game two saw all of it's scoring in two innings. Mount Olive struck first with a JT Stone two-RBI single into right to give the Trojans the first lead of the game.
Mount Olive then added three more runs off the bat of Gunner Tolston with a home run to left to extend the margin to five.
Limestone scored all of their runs in the fifth as well, however, they would all be of the one-run variety and only three as the trailed 5-3.
The Saints were able to get two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but the Trojan pitching staff held the scoreline and took game two as well on the day.
MOUNT OLIVE LEADERS
Hunter Stevens (3-0) got the win for the Trojans in game two going the complete game allowing three runs off four hits and struck out 10. Gunner Tolston led UMO with three RBI on the heels of a 1-for-2 performance.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment of the game came in the fifth when after lead by two the Trojans got the insurance runs needed on a three-run home run by Gunner Tolston.
