Box Score 2 HICKORY, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive softball team won the first two games in the Lenior-Rhyne Bear Bash against Virginia State and Johnson C. Smith 9-5, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in Hickory, N.C.
GAME ONE INFORMATION
Mount Olive took the early lead on RBI-single by Eileen Barrera. Virginia State came back to take the lead in the fourth on back-to-back RBI-doubles and led 3-1. The fifth gave UMO three more runs and the lead back, 4-3. A five-run bottom of the sixth gave all the run support Mount Olive need to cruise to the 9-5 game.
TROJAN LEADERS
Haley Brogen got the complete-game win allowing five runs off seven hits and struck out 13. The Trojan offense was led by Eileen Barrera who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
VIRGINIA STATE LEADERS
The VSU Trojans were led by Taylor Bilyard with had a team-high two RBI.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment came in the fifth when Mount Olive was able to plate three runs and regain the lead for good.
GAME TWO INFORMATION
Mount Olive had a low scoring affair in their second game of the day. It took UMO until the second to see any runs come across but Cassandra Lassiter made the Golden Bulls pay with a solo shot to left. The fifth added two more runs on Mikayla Koch and Megan Bryant RBI-singles and UMO needed no more run support as they won 3-0.
TROJAN LEADERS
Hailey Kessinger (2-0) went the distance allowing five hits and struck out six.
JOHNSON C. SMITH LEADERS
The Rams were led by A'niya Jackson with a team-high two hits.
KEY MOMENT
The key moment was when Mount Olive scored the first go-ahead run the proved to be all UMO needed to win despite the insurance runs they scored.
