Trojans Have Successful Day At CNU Holiday Open

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia - The University of Mount Olive men's track and field team had a good showing at the Holiday Open in Newport News, Va. The Trojans set 16 Conference Carolinas qualifying marks and saw 11 Trojans move inside the top-10 on the all-time list.

MEET INFORMATION
The Trojan men's and women's teams competed in their second full meet as a team at the Holiday Open and the final of the 2019 year. 

INSIDE THE RESULTS
On the men's side in the weight throw, Ben Howard (13.77m) and Jon Wojcuich (13.23m) placed sixth and seventh place and moved into fourth and seventh on the UMO all-time lists respectively. In the 60MH Jordan Martian finished in a time of 8.80 and Elijah Perez finished in 8.95 as the two moved into seventh and ninth all-time. In the high jump, Ethan Swenson hit a mark of 1.92m and took fourth place and moved into sixth place all-time. Swenson also had a good showing in the Pole Vault with a height of 3.35m to finish seventh and moved into 10th all-time. 

 

In other events; Tom Kalliske in the weight throw hit a mark of 12.69m to finish 8th. In the Long jump, Nykie Pray hit a distance of 6.44m to finish in seventh, and in the triple jump finished seventh as well. The 400m saw Elijah Osimokun win the event with a time of 52.17, he also took fourth in the 200m with a time of 23.20. Tanner Smith's 3.95m in the pole vault earned him a third-place finish. In the shot put Kalliske took fourth with his mark of 14.15, while Howard hit a mark of 11.73 and Wojcuich hit a distance of 10.71. The Trojans also set seven Conference Carolinas qualifying marks.

On the women's side, in the 60MH Luisa Stutzke took fifth-place with a time of 9.21 and moved into third place all-time. Mora Smith, in the long jump, hit a distance of 5.06 and finished eighth to move herself in a tie for sixth all-time. Candise Lockett won the weight throw with a 15.51m throw and moved into second-place all-time. Also in the weight throw, Samantha Tobin made a move in the top-10 with her throw of 13.85, in which she took third and moved into eight in the top-10. In the triple jump, Mora Smith took third with a 10.75m mark and moved into sixth all-time.

 

In other events; Tameia Morrison finished second in the weight throw with a throw of 14.10m and Kaliya Sutton took sixth with her throw of 12.09m. In the shot put Tobin finished seventh with a mark of 11.05m, Morrison took eighth with a throw of 10.98m and Sutton was close behind with a throw of 10.97m. The Trojans also set nine Conference Carolinas qualifying marks.

The Trojans are back in competition again in the new year when Mount Olive competes in the JDL January College Kick-Off on January 19 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
