Men's Lacrosse Takes Home Opener 15-3 Over Catawba

Mount Olive, N.C. – The 11th-ranked University of Mount Olive men's lacrosse team defeated the Indians of Catawba College 15-3 in non-conference competition Saturday afternoon at the Ray McDonald Sr Track and Field/Lacrosse Complex. The game was the home opener for the Trojans.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST QUARTER

  • Mount Olive struck first in the game as Austin Whitlow found the back of the net with 13:49 left in the first quarter.
  • Thatcher Clark and Brady Elbin added unassisted goals to give UMO a three-goal lead before Catawba stopped the Trojans run.
  • The Indians' Dalton Cook scored two goals with the final coming at the 5:11 mark in the quarter as UMO held onto a 3-2 lead.
  • Following a Catawba penalty, Mount Olive's Cody Graden beat the Indians keeper to score a man-up goal with 2:46 left to push the lead back to 4-2 heading into the second.

SECOND QUARTER

  • Graden was the only player to score a goal in the second quarter as the Trojans took a three-goal, 5-2 lead into the break.

THIRD QUARTER

  • The third quarter was all UMO as four different Trojans got in on the scoring efforts as Jacob Ball, Scott Dagnanleach (2), Graden, and Clark all scored to expand the lead to 10-2.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Mount Olive continued their scoring run that began in the first quarter into the fourth with a Clark goal with 3:56 left in the fourth.
  • The UMO 11-goal run was snapped with a Catawba goal with 1:37 left in the quarter.
  • Connor Watson had the final score of the game however as the Trojans took the win 15-3.

KEY STATS

  • Clark led the Trojans with four goals and an assist. Dagnanleach and Graden both finished with three goals and an assist. Thee other Trojans scored a goal in the contest.
  • Between the posts, Will Urban (W: 2-0) took the win, making 14 saves on 16 shots.

NOTABLES

  • Mount Olive was 27-for-28 on clear attempts on the day.

Mount Olive will return to action February, 21 when the Trojans will travel to Hartsville, S.C to take on the Cobras of Coker College. The first face-off is set for 3 p.m.
