Box Score No. 11 University of Mount Olive defeated Catawba College 11-5 Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse at Amon field in Mount Olive, N.C. Three Trojans scored two goals a piece to outlast the Indians.
Matt Shields put Mount Olive (4-0) ahead to start the game as the senior struck for goal off a pass from Luke Morris with 12:04 to go in the first quarter. over ten minutes passed before another goal was scored. Jacob Ball found the back of the net with 2:25 and Mount Olive led by two going into the second quarter.
Brett Kingston added another goal at the 12:05 mark to extend the Trojan lead. Liam Lynch, from Catawba (0-2) broke the scoreless streak with 6:19 left before halftime and the Indians were on the board. Mount Olive added one more goal before the break from Jesse Mitchell with 2:01 left.
The third quarter saw a draw as both Catawba and Mount Olive scored three goals a piece and moved the score line to 7-4.
In the final quarter, Mount Olive kicked up the offense and closed the game out with four more goals and took the final decision 11-5.
In defense, Tyler Feniello led the team with five ground balls. Luke Morris added three ground balls with two caused turnovers.
Mount Olive will host one final game as part of a four game home stand February 27 against Lynn. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Amon Field.
