Box Score Nationally 11th-ranked University of Mount Olive scored the first 15 goals of the game and went on to defeat Lees-McRae College 18-3 in Conference Carolinas men's lacrosse Tuesday at Banner Elk, N.C. Jake Duarte led Mount Olive with three goals, while five other Trojans scored two goals apiece.
Mount Olive (7-2 overall, 2-0 Conference Carolinas) led 7-0 after one period as Brett Kingston and Matt Shield each scored a pair of goals. Nico Shewey opened the second period scoring and the Trojans led 11-0 at halftime. Vincent Cardella scored with 10:55 left in the third period and assisted on Gabe Cirgus' goal just over 90 seconds later to give the Trojans a 15-0 lead.
Lees-McRae (1-7, 0-3) broke up the shutout on Blaine Stottlar's goal with 8:51 left in the third period.
Ross Bowman played the first half in goal for Mount Olive and recorded one save. Will Urban finished up the game and had four saves.
Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday as the Trojans travel to Belmont, N.C., to take on Belmont Abbey. Face off is 3 p.m.
