Bailee Henry captured the Freshman of the Year Award and was among four Mount Olive College runners to earn All-Conference honors as the Trojans finished second at the 2013 Conference Carolinas Women's Cross Country Championship Friday at Concord, N.C. Henry and Megan Bucek made the second team, while Chrissy Petro and Emily Shaw earned third team honors. The Trojans matched their best-ever conference finish, earning runner-up for the second straight year.
Henry finished seventh out of 78 runners with a time of 19:07, nine seconds off her personal best, but tied for the 15th fastest 5k time in Trojan history. Bucek finished eighth with a time of 19:13 for the 18th best time in school history.
Petro placed 13th with a time of 19:37, while Shaw was 15th with a time of 19:47. The top 15 finishers garner All-Conference Carolinas honors, with the top five being named to the first team, sixth through 10th place named to the second team and 11th through 15th on the third team.
Senior Christina Jordan narrowly missed earning All-Conference for the second straight year, finishing 17th with a time of 19:58. Kelsey Valentine (20:21) finished 23rd and Courtney Siefert (21:18) was 37th.
In the team standings, Mount Olive's top five finishers collected 60 points to place 15 points behind two-time champion King. The Trojans finished 33 points ahead of third-place Barton. King senior Hannah Witt won the individual title by 33 seconds with a time of 17:40.
Mount Olive and King both entered this year's Conference Carolinas Championship ranked in the USTFCCCA Southeast Region Top 10. Mount Olive is ranked No. 6 in the region, while King is ranked No. 4.
Mount Olive is idle until November 9 when the Trojans head to Charlotte, N.C., to compete in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. The Trojans have finished in the top six in the regional in each of the last two years, including a third place finish in 2011.
