Jacob Rogers Leads NCAA Division II In Runs Scored, Top 50 In 12 Categories

Mount Olive senior Jacob Rogers, whose offensive production has been a big reason behind the Trojan baseball team's 16-game winning streak, remains among the NCAA Division II leaders. The Clearwater, Fla. native currently leads the nation in runs scored (54) and runs scored per game (1.64).

In all, the Trojans have seven players among the nation's top 15 in runs scored. Antonio Callaway (44) is tied for eighth; Jermaine Berry (43) and Geno Escalante are tied for 10th; and Mike Mercurio (42) and Bradon Reitano are tied for 12th.

Rogers is in the top 50 in 12 statistics. He ranks third in the country in runs batted in (45), third in home runs per game (0.39); fifth in homers (13); eighth in slugging percentage (.800) and RBI per game (1.36); 10th in total bases (96); 15th in on-base percentage (.532); 18th in walks per game (0.91); 34th in hits (50); and 40th in batting (.417).

Escalante, a junior from Fairfield, Ca., is in the top 50 in six categories as he continues his torrid hitting in his first season with the program. Escalante is now seventh in the country in hits (56); 10th in RBI (41); 17th in RBI per game (1.24); 19th in total bases (86); 28th in batting (.424) and 47th in on-base percentage (.506).

Berry, a junior from Suffolk, Va., remains atop Conference Carolinas in batting average, and is now 17th in the country (.435). He also ranks 14th in hits (54), 13th in RBI per game (1.27) and 22nd in total RBI (38).

Callaway, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., ranks sixth in stolen bases with 24; 26th in steals per game (0.73); and 33rd in RBI (36).

Mercurio, a junior from Brewster, N.Y., is among the nation's leaders in steals. His 19 thefts ranks 19th. Reitano, a sophomore from Hillsborough, N.C., is currently 20th in walks per nine innings (0.91).

The Trojans are also among the nation's pitching leaders. Matt Dillon, a junior from Trinity, N.C., is among three Mount Olive hurlers in the top 50 in victories. Dillon is also 28th in earned run average (1.42).

Jake Moser, a senior from Spring Creek, Nev. ranks 11th in wins (6), as is junior teammate Zach Smith of Newman, Ga. Dillon's five wins place him in a tie for 38th.

The Mount Olive men's volleyball team is also well-represented on the NCAA statistics. Junior Adam Miracle from Cincinnati, Ohio is 29th in kills per set (3.33) and 36th in hitting percentage (.260). Junior Dan Arnold from Camp Humphreys, Korea, is 11th in digs per set (2.34); Jackson Metichechhia, a senior from Littlerock, Calif., is 17th in assists per set (10.09); Jack Tutty, a sophomore from Sydney, Australia, is 36th in blocks per set (0.94) and Alex Rivero, a junior from Miami, Fla., is 43rd in kills per set (2.86).

For the softball team, freshman pitcher Lauren Smith of Clinton, N.C., ranks 12th in the country is shutouts (7) and 42nd in strikeouts per seven innings (7.1). Conference Carolinas Player of the Week Rebekah McDaniel of Woodbridge, Va. is 28th in hit by pitch per game (.25)
