Gore Reaches 1,000 Career Digs as Trojans Rally Past Belmont Abbey

BELMONT – Kacey Gore reached a career milestone Friday night, becoming the newest member of the University of Mount Olive women's volleyball program's 1,000-career dig club as the Trojans rallied from two sets down to defeat Belmont Abbey 3-2 (19-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-23, 16-14) in Conference Carolinas action.

The senior libero eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark while leading Mount Olive's defensive effort with 26 digs, anchoring a comeback that saw the Trojans win three consecutive sets to secure the road victory.

Gore's milestone came on another memorable night for Olivia Melvin, who continued her breakout stretch with a career-high 23 kills just one match after recording her first 20-kill performance. The sophomore outside hitter added 12 digs and two block assists to pace the Trojans' offense.

Setter Lyndsay Reid orchestrated the comeback with 50 assists, finishing just eight shy of her career high while helping Mount Olive produce 64 kills and a .251 hitting percentage. Reid also contributed three kills and three block assists in the victory.

Rachel Clark added 13 kills on a match-best .522 hitting percentage, Bayli Bryan recorded seven kills with five block assists, and Kaitlyn Koel chipped in 11 kills as Mount Olive totaled 12 team blocks.

After falling behind 2-0, the Trojans found their rhythm in the third set with a .314 hitting percentage before closing out the fourth and surviving a back-and-forth fifth set to complete the reverse sweep.

With the win, Mount Olive improved to 8-6 overall and 3-4 in Conference Carolinas. The Trojans next contest sees them travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face the Converse Valkyries.
