FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. — The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Emmanuel University (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon at the Shaw Athletic Center, falling by scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-19 in Conference Carolinas action.
Mount Olive (5-6, 1-2 Conference Carolinas) battled throughout the opening set, staying within striking distance before Emmanuel (5-5, 2-1 Conference Carolinas) pulled away late for a 25-21 victory.
The Trojans were led offensively by
Kaitlyn Landis, who recorded a team-high 13 kills on 44 attacks.
Olivia Melvin added 12 kills while hitting .304 for the match, while
Bayli Bryan contributed six kills on 15 attacks.
Emmanuel took control early in the second set, building an advantage before claiming the frame, 25-16.Â
The Trojans showed fight in the third set, using a late run to close the gap after Emmanuel had built a sizeable advantage. Mount Olive trimmed the deficit to 24-19 before Emmanuel closed out the match, 25-19.
Lyndsay Reid paced the Mount Olive offense with 27 assists.
Kacey Gore recorded 23 digs, while
Rachel Clark added two solo blocks.
Mount Olive returns to action against hometown rival Barton on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Wilson.
