Trojans Rally Past Erskine for 3-1 Road Victory

DUE WEST, S.C. — The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team bounced back from an opening-set loss to claim a 3-1 victory over Erskine on Friday night at Belk Arena.

The Trojans (5-5, 1-1 Conference Carolinas) fell 25-21 in the opening set before responding with three straight set wins, taking the second set 25-18, the third 25-22 and the fourth 25-18.

Mount Olive found its rhythm offensively after the opening frame, posting a .246 hitting percentage for the match with 52 kills on 142 attacks. The Trojans also finished with 52 assists, 72 digs and 6.5 total team blocks.


Kaitlyn Landis paced the Trojan attack with 15 kills while hitting .268, adding 11 digs and three service aces for a team-high 19 points. Olivia Melvin followed with 13 kills, while Rachel Clark delivered an efficient performance with nine kills on 13 attacks for a .615 hitting percentage. Bayli Bryan added six kills while hitting .308.


Lyndsay Reid orchestrated the offense with 37 assists while adding 10 digs, two block assists, a solo block, and a service ace. Kacey Gore and Marleigh Cooper anchored the back row with 19 digs each.


After hitting .128 in the first set, Mount Olive responded with a .400 attacking percentage in the second set, committing just one attack error on 35 attempts. The Trojans then closed the match with a .158 mark in the third set and a .333 performance in the fourth.


Mount Olive returns to action with the victory, improving to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Trojans travel to Franklin Springs, Ga. to face Emmanuel Saturday at 1 p.m.
