Trojans Earn Key Road Win Over Barton in Four Sets

WILSON — The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team picked up a key Conference Carolinas road victory on Tuesday night, defeating Barton in four sets (25-23, 25-17, 17-25, 25-23) inside Wilson Gymnasium.

With the win, the Trojans improved to 13-7 overall and 10-2 in conference play, continuing their strong push near the top of the league standings.

Mount Olive showcased a balanced offensive attack, hitting .264 as a team while totaling 59 kills. Brooks Ignosci led the way with a match-high 12 kills on an efficient .348 hitting percentage, while Maksim Kazanov added 11 kills with both Matthew Ekberg and Kory Grant contributing eight kills.

Setter Jackson Lahey orchestrated the offense with 42 assists, guiding Mount Olive to a .364 hitting percentage in the second set and .364 again in the fourth — both pivotal frames in securing the victory.

Defensively, the Trojans were steady throughout, finishing with 35 digs and holding Barton to a .289 hitting percentage. Luca Colombo anchored the back row, while Mount Olive also totaled four team blocks and applied consistent service pressure with eight aces.

After edging out a tight opening set, Mount Olive seized momentum with a dominant 25-17 second-set win. Barton responded in the third, but the Trojans regrouped and closed the match with a hard-fought 25-23 victory in the fourth, fending off multiple late pushes from the Bulldogs.

The Trojans return home for their final two matches of the regular season, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. inside Kornegay Arena against Erskine. Mount Olive will then host Emmanuel (Ga.) on Saturday at 2 p.m. in a Senior Day matchup.
