Trojans Pull Ahead in 8th Inning Over Ferrum

FERRUM, VA – Powered by a trio of home runs and a big eighth-inning surge, the Trojans rolled to an 11-7 victory over Ferrum in an electric Conference Carolinas showing.

The Trojans came out swinging in the opening frame, as Josh Mason doubled to set the tone before Malachi Gales and Rowan Watt each delivered RBI hits to give Mount Olive a quick 2-0 lead.

Ferrum battled back to tie things at 2-2 in the second, and later took a 4-3 lead in the fifth, but Mount Olive never let the momentum slip for long.

The turning point arrived in the sixth inning. Rowan Watt crushed a solo home run that snapped the Trojans' deficit, tying the game and lifting the team's energy. Mount Olive seized the momentum, with Jeremiah McLemore following with an RBI double and Lane McLean adding another RBI knock, putting the Trojans back in front, 6-4.

From there, the energy only built.

After Ferrum trimmed the lead to one in the seventh, Mount Olive delivered its loudest statement in the eighth inning. Lane McLean blasted a solo home run to get things started before Malachi Gales drove in another run. Moments later, Watt struck again—launching his second homer of the day, a three-run shot that blew the game open and gave the Trojans their third home run of the afternoon.

That long-ball showcase powered a five-run inning and extended the lead to 11-5, putting the game firmly in Mount Olive's control.

Ferrum pushed across a pair of runs in the ninth, but the Trojans shut the door to secure the 11-7 win.

Mount Olive's offense racked up 14 hits on the day, highlighted by the three home runs—two from Rowan Watt and one from Lane McLean—that fueled the Trojans' explosive finish. Watt led the charge with a dominant performance at the plate, while McLemore, Gales, and Mason all contributed key hits throughout the lineup.

Mount Olive finishes the regular season tomorrow with a doubleheader against Ferrum at 11 AM and 2 PM.
