Fitzgerald Matches Career-High, Sets Personal-Best Seven Points in Trojans’ 24-7 Win

ROME, Ga. – The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team turned in a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, defeating Shorter 24-7 on the road at Ben Brady Field, highlighted by a career performance from Alexa Fitzgerald.

Mount Olive found itself in an early battle, as the Trojans held a narrow 4-3 lead after the first quarter. After Shorter briefly grabbed momentum, Mount Olive responded with back-to-back goals from Fitzgerald to close the opening frame and regain control.

The Trojans seized command in the second quarter, outscoring Shorter 7-3 to take an 11-6 lead into halftime. Fitzgerald sparked the surge with four goals in the period, playing a pivotal role in shifting the momentum in Mount Olive's favor, while Katie Broom and Libby Berg added key scores to extend the advantage.


Mount Olive put the game out of reach in the third quarter, holding Shorter scoreless while netting seven goals of its own. Jazna Dumont recorded back-to-back goals during the stretch, and the Trojans' defense limited the Hawks to just one shot in the frame.


The offensive momentum continued into the fourth quarter as Mount Olive added six more goals to secure the 24-7 victory.


Fitzgerald led the way with a career day, tying her personal best with five goals while setting a new career-high with seven points on five goals and two assists. Her performance surpasses her previous top outing earlier this season in Mount Olive's 22-2 win over Lees-McRae, where she recorded five goals and one assist for six points.


Morghan Pollock also matched Fitzgerald with five goals, while Libby Berg, Jordan Bolam, and Katie Broom each added three goals, with Broom contributing an assist as part of a balanced offensive effort.


Mount Olive controlled possession throughout the contest, winning the draw control battle 22-8 and outshooting Shorter 45-14. The Trojans also forced 14 turnovers while committing just six, highlighting a disciplined and efficient effort on both ends of the field, with Pollock and Giavahna Gasdia each recording three caused turnovers.


In goal, Molly Pulliam earned the win with two saves in the second half, while Ruby Burandt added two saves in the opening half.


Mount Olive closes out the regular season on the road Sunday, traveling to Cleveland, Tenn. to face non-conference foe Lee at 1 p.m.
