Trojans First To Score Against Undefeated Barton in Road Setback

WILSON — The University of Mount Olive women's flag football team battled on the road Saturday but fell 65–7 to undefeated Barton College, marking another milestone moment in the Trojans' inaugural season.

Despite the final score, Mount Olive made its mark by becoming the first team this season to score against Barton. The Bulldogs entered the matchup riding momentum from a dominant 120–0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan University and had not allowed a single point through their first game.

The Trojans broke through with their lone touchdown of the afternoon, ending Barton's early-season shutout streak and showing flashes of the offensive potential the program displayed in its debut just a week earlier.

UMO's lone score came on a 9-play, 66-yard drive in the 3rd quarter. Maiya George ran it in from one yard out for the touchdown. George led the team in rushing with Alivia Conticello leading in receiving.

Jaylianie Lucas was quarterback number 1 for the Trojans collecting 248 yards on 35-of-51 attempts with her longest pass being a 31 yard pass to Conticello.

Mount Olive will return to Wilson to face conference foes Mount St. Mary's at 11 a.m. and Ferrum at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 14,
