WILSON — The University of Mount Olive flag football team fell 73-6 to Ferrum College in a conference matchup Saturday afternoon at a neutral-site contest hosted at Barton College.
Mount Olive faced an early deficit after the opening quarter, trailing 27–0. The Trojans continued to fight through the second quarter as the margin grew to 39–0 at halftime, but the team remained resilient and kept competing throughout the second half.
The Trojans broke through late in the fourth quarter when Saundra Funderburk capped a quick three-play, 66-yard drive with a touchdown run.
Offensively, Jaylianie Lucas completed 14-of-31 passes for 159 yards, while Funderburk led the rushing attack with 39 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown. In the receiving game,
Aaliyah Cox paced the Trojans with 70 yards on four receptions, including a long catch of 55 yards.
Defensively, Kris'Shyia McKoy recorded a team-high six tackles, while
Zamarah Rawls added five tackles, an interception and two pass break ups.
Maiya George also contributed a sack for the Trojans.
Mount Olive will return to action on Saturday, March 21, traveling to face Wingate and Mars Hill in Wingate, North Carolina
