Trojans Dominate Barton in Straight-Set Sweep at Home

MOUNT OLIVE — The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team delivered a dominant performance on its home court Tuesday night, sweeping Barton in straight sets (25-15, 25-19, 25-11) inside Kornegay Arena.

The Trojans controlled the match from start to finish, hitting an efficient .286 as a team while holding Barton to a negative hitting percentage (-.113). Mount Olive's balanced offensive attack featured multiple contributors, led by Brooks Ignosci's match-high nine kills on an impressive .500 hitting percentage.

Setter Jackson Lahey orchestrated the offense with 22 assists, guiding the Trojans to 29 total kills. Mount Olive also applied pressure from the service line and in system play, recording key runs in each set to keep Barton off balance.

Defensively, the Trojans were dominant at the net, totaling 17.0 team blocks compared to just 5.0 from Barton. The trio of Maksim Kazanov, Brooks Ignosci, and Matthew Ekberg played a major role in disrupting Barton's attack, which never found rhythm and hit -.217 in the decisive third set.

Mount Olive set the tone early with a convincing 25-15 opening set, then used a mid-set surge in the second to pull away for a 25-19 win. The Trojans closed the match in emphatic fashion, jumping out to a large lead in the third and cruising to a 25-11 victory to complete the sweep.

Mount Olive travels to face Barton on Wednesday, April 8, in Wilson, N.C., with first serve set for 7 p.m.
