Mount Olive Men’s Volleyball Battles Past Fort Valley State, 3-1

MOUNT OLIVE The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team responded after dropping the opening set to earn a 3-1 victory over Fort Valley State on Saturday afternoon at Kornegay Arena.

After falling 25-21 in the first set, the Trojans found their rhythm and took control of the match, winning the next three sets 25-12, 25-22 and 29-27. Mount Olive hit efficiently throughout the final three frames while tightening up defensively at the net.

Kory Grant led a balanced Mount Olive attack, finishing with a team-high 22 kills while hitting at a high percentage (.500). Brooks Ignosci provided a strong presence at the net, contributing double-digit kills and helping anchor the Trojans' blocking effort.

Mount Olive dominated the second set, jumping out to an early lead and holding Fort Valley State to a .000 hitting percentage.
The Trojans carried that momentum into the third set, pulling away late to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.


The fourth set turned into a back-and-forth battle featuring multiple lead changes and extended play. With the score tied late, Mount Olive leaned on its blocking and capitalized on Fort Valley State attack errors to close out the set, 29-27, and secure the victory.


As a team, the Trojans finished with 15.5 total blocks and limited Fort Valley State's offensive efficiency in key moments. Mount Olive improved to 3-3 on the season with the win.


The Trojans improve to 3-3 on the season. With a six day break in between until their next match, Mount Olive will be well rested for their match against Lees-McRae on Friday, Feb. 13 in Banner Elk.
