Red-Hot Third Quarter Fuels Mount Olive Women to 73–67 Win at Ferrum in Regular-Season Finale

FERRUM, Va. — The Mount Olive Trojans wrapped up the 2025–26 regular season on a high note Wednesday evening, using a dominant third quarter to secure a 73–67 victory over the Ferrum Panthers at Swartz Gymnasium.

After trailing 38–31 at halftime, Mount Olive flipped the momentum with an explosive third period, outscoring Ferrum 26–17. The Trojans shot an efficient 10-of-13 from the field in the quarter, including three triples, to take a 57–55 lead into the final 10 minutes.

Kayla Jackson and Aniyah Vanhook powered the comeback, each finishing with a game-high 18 points. Jackson added three rebounds and two blocks, while Vanhook provided a steady presence on both ends, shooting 6-of-11 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line.

Jerin Truesdale chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds, while Savannah McAfee added 11 points as Mount Olive finished the night shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from three-point range.

The fourth quarter featured multiple lead changes, but Mount Olive took control late with an 8–0 run midway through the period. The Trojans sealed the win at the foul line, converting 8-of-10 free throws in the final quarter to fend off the Panthers' comeback attempt.

Mount Olive also held advantages in fast-break points (11–4) and points off turnovers, helping offset Ferrum's edge on the glass.

UMO will now turn its focus to postseason play, as the Trojans prepare to compete against No. 7 ranked Young Harris in the opening round of the 2026 Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship. First-round action is set to begin Sunday, March 1 at 5 p.m., as Mount Olive looks to build on the momentum from its strong regular-season finale.
