Mount Olive Falls to Young Harris in Conference Carolinas Tournament Opener

Murfreesboro, N.C. The Mount Olive Trojans women's basketball season came to an end Sunday night with a hard-fought 50–48 loss to Young Harris College in the opening round of the 2026 Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Championship at Chowan University.

Mount Olive, the No. 12 seed, trailed 12–7 after the first quarter but responded with a strong second period, outscoring the Mountain Lions 13–11 to head into halftime down just 23–20. The Trojans continued to battle in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to five at 39–34 heading into the final 10 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, Mount Olive mounted a late rally and briefly took a 48–46 lead with 1:50 remaining. Young Harris answered with a jumper to tie the game and then sealed the outcome at the free-throw line in the final seconds to escape with the two-point win.


University of Mount Olive was led by Savannah McAfee, who finished with a game-high 18 points and added seven rebounds. Jerin Truesdale contributed eight points and five rebounds, while Jayla Hicks chipped in eight points, six rebounds, and three assists. As a team, the Trojans forced 13 turnovers and stayed within striking distance throughout the game.


With the loss, Mount Olive concludes the 2025–26 season with an 8–19 overall record and a 5–15 mark in Conference Carolinas play.
