Trojans Battle but Fall to Undefeated Rockhurst at Home

MOUNT OLIVE — The University of Mount Olive women's lacrosse team returned home on Sunday but came up short against undefeated Rockhurst, falling 15–7 in non-conference play at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.

Mount Olive received balanced scoring throughout the afternoon, highlighted by
two goals each from Morghan Pollock, Alexa Fitzgerald, and Katie Broom, while Ava Mullen added one. Fitzgerald also recorded the Trojans' lone assist of the day.

Simone McCraw led the Trojans defense behind six caused turnovers and one ground ball, with Giavahna Gasdia being the only other Trojan with a caused turnover to go along with two ground balls.

Rockhurst used a decisive second quarter to create separation, outscoring UMO 7–2 in the frame to take a 10–3 halftime lead. Despite strong defensive stretches from the Trojans, including six saves from goalkeeper
Ruby Burandt, who played the full 60 minutes. UMO was unable to slow a Hawks offense that featured 11 different goal scorers.

Mount Olive continued to battle in the second half, with Pollock and Fitzgerald each finding the net again, while Broom added her second goal on a man-up opportunity in the third quarter. The Trojans also posted a perfect 19-for-21 performance on clears and forced 15 Rockhurst turnovers, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome.

The Trojans hit the road to face Lander on Wednesday in Greenwood, S.C. at 3 p.m
