Trojans Battle Through Road Test in 85–72 Loss at UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE - The University of Mount Olive men's basketball team competed through all 40 minutes but ultimately fell 85–72 to UNC Pembroke on Tuesday night at the English E. Jones Center.

Mount Olive kept the contest within reach throughout the first half, matching the Braves' pace offensively and attacking the paint to stay close. The Trojans went into the locker room trailing 39–32 after shooting efficiently down the stretch of the opening period.

UNC Pembroke created separation in the second half by capitalizing on transition opportunities and second-chance points, pushing the lead into double figures midway through the period. Despite the deficit, the Trojans continued to fight, stringing together stops and baskets to cut into the margin late.


Jaevian Alston led Mount Olive with a team-high 16 points while adding 10 rebounds for a double-double effort. Raul Perez followed with 15 points on an efficient shooting night, and Redford Dunton chipped in 12 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Shane Peterson rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points, while Christian Ananaba and Jefferson McLamb each added eight points off the bench.


Mount Olive finished the night shooting 42.1 percent from the field and held a 36–38 rebounding margin against one of the conference's top teams. The Trojans will look to build on their competitive stretches as they continue Conference Carolinas play.


Mount Olive hosts King on Saturday for Senior Night with the game set to tip off at 6 p.m.
