Second-Half Surge Lifts Chowan Past Mount Olive, 90–77

MURFREESBORO - Mount Olive was unable to withstand a second-half surge by Chowan, falling 90–77 Wednesday night at the Hawks Athletic Center in Conference Carolinas play.

The Trojans controlled much of the opening half, building an early 11-point advantage and taking a 38–35 lead into the break after shooting 50 percent from the field. Mount Olive used strong interior play and transition scoring to dictate tempo, holding Chowan to 33.3 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.

Chowan flipped the momentum after halftime, outscoring the Trojans 55–39 in the second half. The Hawks shot 51.6 percent from the floor in the period and capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 20-of-24 attempts to pull away down the stretch.

Raul Perez led Mount Olive with 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while Christian Ananaba added 13 points. Shane Peterson and Dante Kiesenhofer chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively, as the Trojans placed five players in double figures. Jaevian Alston also reached double figures with 10 points and added three assists.

Mount Olive finished the night shooting 48.1 percent from the field and scored 44 points in the paint, while also holding a 20–15 edge in fast-break points. However, Chowan's advantage at the free-throw line and on the glass proved decisive.

The Trojans return home to face Erskine in the newly renovated Kornegay Arena Saturday at 2 p.m.
