Trojans Lose Battle to Mocs 1-0 in Home Opener

MOUNT OLIVE - The Mount Olive men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Mocs of Florida Southern in the home opener at Amon Field Friday night.

Both teams, excited to begin their 2025 seasons, brought fierce and intense energy to the game all the way to the end.

Neither team gave up a goal in the first half as Trojan goalkeeper Daniel Locklear secured clutch saves to keep the Trojans in it. At the eight-minute mark in the first half, Locklear saved a ball after an incredible move on a ball hit towards the left corner by Mocs Darcy Moffat.

The Trojans had back-to-back shots by Juan Gonzales-Gancedo and Kayden Richter within a minute apart at 28 minutes in the first half, but one was saved by Mocs goalkeeper Lasse Dettmer and the other was off leaving UMO scoreless in the first half.

UMO tried to set up their offense in the second half on five corner kicks and seven shots, but it wasn't enough.

Gonzales-Gancedo and Richter led the way on offense for the Trojans with two shots each. Abraham Haytham totaled one shot on goal as well.

Junior goalie Daniel Locklear played a complete 90 minutes for the Trojans facing 13 shots, totaling three saves.

UMO fell when Tim Baierlein of FSC scored the only goal of the game at the 48:33 mark, assisted by Moffat.

The Trojans host Eckerd on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Amon Field for the final game of the weekend.
