Bayoumi’s Last Minute Heroics Not Enough in 2-1 Loss to Eckerd

MOUNT OLIVE - The Mount Olive men's soccer team ends its opening weekend series against Eckerd Tritons, falling 2-1 after their comeback fell just short at Amon Field Sunday afternoon.

The Trojans scored at 87:52 on a goal by Rumi Bayoumi from Alagie Njie to bring themselves within one goal of the Tritons.

In a last minute effort to secure possession, Mount Olive's defense stepped up, forcing an Eckerd offside with a little less than one minute left. However with not enough time left to score, the Trojans would fall 2-1.

Kayden Richter and Joao Filho Barboza each had chances to score, combining for three shots on goal, but were unable to capitalize on momentum.

After a head-to-head collision left UMO goalkeeper Daniel Locklear unable to perform, freshman Kingston Ouellete stepped up for the Trojans playing solid minutes (61:02) in his first collegiate start.

The Trojans next contest is against Catawba on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Mount Olive returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 17 against Conference Carolina for Francis Marion.
