Izzi Lugo Scores Goal Against No. 19 Ranked Catawba in Loss

SALISBURY - The University of Mount Olive women's soccer team lost its first road contest of the season to No. 19 ranked Catawba, 8-1, in Wednesday's evening game. The ranking is according to the United Soccer Coaches Division II women's soccer poll.

Izzi Lugo scored UMOs only goal at the 59:36 mark in the second half. Lugo finished with two shots, both being on goal. Charlotte Benson tallied two shots as well, with Malia Acevedo, Ana Caldentey, and Riley Booth each securing a shot each.

The Trojans are the only team this season to score a goal on Hawks, who have outscored their opponents 15-1. The Indians haven't let an opponent score in a win since Oct 5, 2024 (5-1 win over Anderson (S.C.).

The Trojans goalkeepers, Anais Coyne and Mazey McKechnie, combined for four saves and eight allowed goals.

Mount Olive's next contest is Saturday, Sept. 13 at home, facing off against USC Aiken at 4 p.m.
