MOUNT OLIVE (July 1) – The University of Mount Olive women's tennis program featured four student-athletes on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as sophomore
Victoria Calle, junior
Alina Esser, sophomore
Lara Stamereilers, and sophomore
Simone Szovan earned the honor.
To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative 3.50 grade-point average (GPA), and have played in 70 percent of an institution's days of competition. Additionally, each institution is capped at four nominees in the sport of women's tennis.
A native of Tarragona, Spain, Calle produced an 8-8 overall record while competing in the third and fourth slot in singles play. She delivered a 5-4 record in Conference Carolinas action. Alongside Stamereilers, Calle posted a 10-5 mark in doubles competition with a 6-3 record in league action. She boasts an impressive 4.00 GPA while double majoring in business management and marketing.
Esser competed in 13 doubles matches, primarily in the third slot, and held a 3-5 mark in Conference Carolinas play. She garners the CSC All-District accolade for a second-straight year. Esser maintains a perfect 4.00 GPA while majoring in psychology.
Stamereilers was voted to the All-Conference Carolinas Second-Team after competing at the No. 1 singles position for the Trojans. She delivered a 7-7 overall mark behind a 5-4 record in Conference Carolinas action. In doubles competition, the duo of Stamereilers and Calle registered a 10-5 mark with a 6-3 record in league play. She holds a 4.00 cumulative GPA while majoring in psychology.
Szovan produced a 7-10 record in singles competition behind a 5-4 mark in Conference Carolinas play. In doubles, she teamed up with Bernier the majority of the season and posted an 8-8 overall record in the first position with a 4-5 mark in league action. Szovan maintains a 3.88 GPA while pursuing a bachelor's degree in psychology.
Note, starting in the 2023-24 academic year, advancement from Academic All-District submission to the Academic All-America ballot will be determined by subcommittees of the CSC Academic All-America program (formerly CoSIDA).
