Gruenefeldt Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Recent University of Mount Olive graduate Niklas Gruenefeldt '26, a former member of the UMO men's tennis team, has been selected as a recipient of the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, an award presented to student-athletes who achieve excellence in academics and athletics while demonstrating leadership and commitment throughout their collegiate careers.

Gruenefeldt was one of 42 winter sport student-athletes across all NCAA divisions selected to receive the prestigious award, which provides a one-time $10,000 scholarship to support graduate study. The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recognizes student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through academic achievement, athletic success, leadership, and service.

A senior business management major from Angern an der March, Austria, Gruenefeldt has maintained a 3.9 grade-point average while competing as a member of the Trojan men's tennis program.

During his time with the Trojans, Gruenefeldt has been recognized as one of the top student-athletes in Conference Carolinas. He earned Second Team All-Conference honors this season.

Beyond his accomplishments on the court, Gruenefeldt has consistently excelled in the classroom. He has earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors in 2025 and 2026, was named to the 2025 Fall Presidential Honor Roll – Summa Cum Laude, and earned Winter-Spring Academic All-Conference recognition during the 2025-26 academic year.

To qualify for the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of intercollegiate athletics eligibility, maintain at least a 3.2 GPA, and be nominated by their institution's faculty athletics representative (FAR). Academic achievements, campus involvement, community service, volunteer activities, and demonstrated leadership are also considered during the selection process.

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 1964 to promote and encourage graduate education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes through their participation in NCAA championship and/or emerging sports.
