MOUNT OLIVE (April 8) – After collecting the doubles point, the Trojans won by a score of 4-3 versus No. 44 ranked Barton on Senior Day at John Neal Walker Tennis Center in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, the University of Mount Olive men's tennis team improves to 8-8 overall in dual matches while holding a 5-1 mark in league play. The Trojans will close out conference action this season with three straight-away contests. Meanwhile, Barton drops to 13-7 this season behind a 5-3 record in conference action.
The Trojans secured the doubles point on Tuesday after earning wins in two of three contests. In the first position, junior
Philip Peter Carstensen and sophomore
Kristoffer Dalbak collected a 7-5 victory against Guillem Busquets Brau and Hannes Tylehed. The juniors
Bram Poel and
Niklas Gruenefeldt won the deciding doubles with a 6-4 margin in the second doubles versus Johan Holgersson and Hampus Wik. At the third slot, the freshman duo
Luke Oosthuizen and
Joao Matias Sonaglia fell by a close 6-7 margin to Felipe Mioch and Daniel Lopez Adelino.
Mount Olive won three of the six singles matches to record the Conference Carolinas win. Dalbak registered an impressive 6-3, 6-0 win in the first position over Mioch. Gruenefeldt suffered a 3-6, 6-3, 2-6 loss in three sets to Lopez Adelino at No. 2 singles, while Poel collected a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win in the third slot against Tylehed. Carstensen fell by a 6-2, 1-6, 3-6 decision to Holgersson in the fourth position before sophomore
Hampus Hagglund fell by a 5-7, 2-6 margin versus Sebastian Sevilla at No. 5 singles. Freshman
Hiroma Nishikata secured the clinching victory in the final match in the sixth slot by a 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) decision versus Deni Furtado Brlenic.
The Trojans return to action on Wednesday, April 16, when they travel to face Francis Marion in league play, starting at 2 p.m.
