FLORENCE, S.C. (April 16) – In a league match, the University of Mount Olive men's tennis team registered a narrow 4-3 loss versus Francis Marion in Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Trojans drop to 8-9 overall behind a 5-2 record in league action. Mount Olive has won five of the 11 meetings in the series against the Patriots dating back to 2016. Meanwhile, Francis Marion improves to 11-6 this season with a 7-2 mark in conference play.
The Patriots secured the doubles point after winning two of the three matches on Wednesday. Junior
Philip Peter Carstensen and sophomore
Kristoffer Dalbak posted a 5-7 loss versus Martin Barbera and Miguel Maia in the first position. In the second doubles, the junior duo
Niklas Gruenefeldt and
Bram Poel registered a 7-5 victory over Harri Lloyd-Evans and Austin Vienna, while freshman
Viggo Lindstrup and sophomore
Hampus Hagglund suffered a 0-6 loss against Luis Lopez Sarasa and Diego Vega Espinosa in the third slot.
In the singles portion, the Patriots tallied three of the possible six victories to claim a 4-3 win. In the first slot, Dalbak collected an impressive 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 victory over Barbera before Gruenefeldt fell in three sets by a score of 6-2, 4-6, 5-7 versus Maia in the second singles. In the third position, Poel battled in 6-4, 5-7, 6-7 (5-7) loss against Lloyd-Evans before Carstensen rallied to a 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9) victory versus Rodrigo Moura Ludgero in the fourth slot. Hagglund posted a 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2 win over Lopez Sarasa in fifth singles, while freshman
Hiroma Nishikata fell by a 2-6, 2-6 against Vega Espinosa in the sixth position.
Mount Olive will return to action on Friday, April 18, for another conference match against Lees-McRae, starting at 1 p.m.
