MURFREESBORO, N.C. (April 25) – After eight players record a multi-hit performances on Friday afternoon, as the University of Mount Olive baseball program rolled past Chowan in a 17-5 win at Chowan in Conference Carolinas action.
Records: Mount Olive Trojans (29-19, 17-13 CC), Chowan Hawks (6-32, 4-26 CC)
Next Up: Mount Olive currently sits seventh in the KPI standings, which determines tournament seeding. The Trojans will await the completion of the conference regular season this weekend to see what their final seed will be for the Conference Carolinas Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Trojans climbed in front by a 4-0 margin in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by redshirt junior Garrett Moffett, his fifth of the season.
- After scoreless second inning, the Hawks closed the deficit with an RBI single up the middle in the third before delivering a sacrifice fly in the fourth, 4-2.
- In the top of the fifth, Mount Olive extended its advantage after scoring six runs on four hits behind a junior trio of RBI singles from Tariq Talley, Kayden Crawford, and Lane McLean. Additionally, senior Wade Kelly produced a two-run double down the left-field line, 10-2.
- With UMO holding a 12-3 in the seventh, junior Mac James entered as a pinch hitter and launched a three-run homer to left field to stretch the lead to 15-3.
- Chowan responded with a two-run homer to left field in bottom half of the seventh, but quickly responded with a two-run single to right field to seal the 17-5 win.
