MOUNT OLIVE (April 16) – In a tightly contested battle on Wednesday afternoon, the Trojans suffered a 5-2 loss versus Francis Marion in Conference Carolinas action on the road.
With the loss, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis team drops to 8-7 overall behind a 6-2 record in conference play. The Trojans drop their first match in the series since 2019 while boasting a 16-7 record versus the Patriots dating back to 2003. Meanwhile, Francis Marion improves to 8-8 this season with a 6-4 mark in league action.
In the doubles session, the Trojans collected two of three doubles victories to claim the doubles point. In the first position, freshman

Simone Szovan secured a 6-3 decision over Lara Lanno and Valery Gomez. The sophomore duo
Lara Stamereilers and
Victoria Calle produced a 6-2 win against Sophia Hansen and Fatima Scarlet Hernandez Huerta in the second position, while junior
Alina Esser and senior
Sandra Riecken fell by a 1-6 margin at third doubles versus Kim Venghaus and Maia Warlies Paredes.
Francis Marion captured five of the six singles matches to secure a 5-2 victory over the Trojans on Wednesday. Stamereilers rally fell short to Lanno in the first slot by a 3-6, 6-3, 3-6 margin before Szovan collected a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Hernandez in the second singles. Calle battled in a 2-6, 6-1, 1-6 loss versus Hansen in the third position, but Bernier fell by a 6-7 (3-7), 0-6 margin to Gomez in the fourth slot. At fifth singles, freshman
Julie Jagiella was dealt a 2-6, 2-6 loss versus Venghaus, while freshman
Claudia Cerdan was downed by Warlies with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 0-1 (5-10).
Mount Olive returns to the court on Wednesday, April 18, to face Lees-McRae on the road for its last regular-season match, starting at 1 p.m.
