WILMINGTON, N.C. (March 9) – In the season-opening meet to begin the outdoor season, the University of Mount Olive men's track & field program established 27 Conference Carolinas qualifying marks and one NCAA standard while competing at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational.
In the hammer throw, graduate student
Dominic Nutter earned a first-place finish following a toss of 59.47 meters to hit the NCAA provisional standard, while posting the second-best mark in program history. He currently holds the top mark in the NCAA Division II after placing sixth at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in 2024. Sophomore
Matthew Heywood secured second place and hit the league mark with a distance of 50.13 meters, which ranks ninth at Mount Olive all-time. Sophomore
Adam Turner registered a fifth-place finish and reached the conference distance of 47.19 meters. Junior
Tyrese Lavender finished sixth with a mark of 46.65 meters and senior
Nicholas Cloud placed seventh with a toss of 45.74 meters, both Conference Carolinas marks.

Jamavie Glover registered a first-place finish after crossing the line in 40.95 seconds.
In the long jump, junior
Brendin Marks captured first place in the long jump with a leap of 6.84 meters to reach the league standard. Sophomore
Zacharie Fedelus placed second overall in the event with a distance of 6.80 meters.
Freshman
Travelius Leach recorded a third-place finish in the 400 meters to hit the conference mark with a time of 48.21 seconds, which ranks sixth all-time at Mount Olive.
In the shot put, the Trojans had six individuals record Conference Carolinas standards in the season-opening meet. Sophomore
Sigursteinn Asgeirsson placed third overall with a toss of 16.45 meters, while Cloud finished fifth with a distance of 15.30 meters. Additionally, freshman
Amari Noble (13.85m), Turner (13.86m), sophomore
Jaylin Durbin (13.42m), and freshman
Caleb Bass (13.14m) all reached the league mark.
Fedelus placed fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.64 meters to qualify for the league championship while sophomore
Princeton Loch finished seventh with a distance of 13.52 meters.
Leach posted a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters and hit the league standard with a time of 21.88 seconds. Senior
Andrew Nixon placed eighth overall after crossing the line in 22.08 seconds to reach the conference mark.
Graduate student
Holden Gerth hit the conference qualifying mark in the javelin with a toss of 55.17 meters to finish fourth, while also ranking fourth all-time in program history. White placed eighth in the event with a distance of 43.44 meters.
In the discus, Mount Olive collected six league-qualifying marks, led by Noble with a third-place finish behind a distance of 48.35 meters, which ranked fourth in program history. Lavender earned a sixth-place finish with a mark of 44.60 meters and Cloud finished eighth overall with a toss of 44.10 meters. Additionally, Durbin (42.85m), Nutter (42.32), and Asgeirsson (42.02) reach the league mark.
Junior
Kavon Poindexter recorded a fifth-place finish in the high jump after clearing 1.91 meters.
The Trojans will be idle for two weeks before competing at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invite in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on March 20-22.
