MOUNT OLIVE (Mar. 2) – Despite losing the doubles point and one singles match, the University of Mount Olive women's tennis program rallied a 5-2 win against West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon in non-conference play.
With the win, the Trojans earned their first win under head coach Julieta Boerr to improve to 1-4 this season behind a 1-2 record at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center. The two teams met for a third consecutive year, as UMO remains defeated in the series dating back to 2023. Meanwhile, the Bobcats fall to 1-6 overall with two losses coming against Conference Carolinas opponents.

Simone Szovan suffered a 4-6 loss in the first position versus Dominique Jansen and Emilie Bergmann. In the second doubles, the sophomore duo of
Victoria Calle and
Lara Stamereilers registered a dominant 6-0 win over Hailey Banda and Sneha Sundaraneedi, while junior
Alina Esser and senior
Sandra Riecken fell with a 3-6 margin in the third slot to Angelique Jansen van Vuuren and Andrea Martinez Garrido.
Mount Olive collected five of six matches on Sunday afternoon to seal the 5-2 victory against the Bobcats. In the first singles, Stamereilers rallied to a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win over Jansen before Calle posted an impressive 6-0, 6-2 win over Sundaraneedi in the second singles. In the third position, Szovan earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over Jansen van Vuuren before Bernier collected a straight sets victory over Gabby Dooling by a score of 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles. Julie Jagiella delivered another victory by a 6-1, 6-0 margin against Banda, while Riecken fell by a close score of 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 0-1 (4-10) to Bergmann.
Mount Olive is returning to the court on Thursday, March 6, for another non-conference match welcoming North Carolina Central at the John Neal Walker Tennis Center at 3 p.m.
